Answer Keith: The proper nomenclature it Armoured Fighting Vehicle (AFV), Tank was the code word used by the brits to disguise what they were actually building during WWI. Just a note, the T-34 tank, perportedly the best all around tank of WWII, was a direct development of the Christie chassie, which just happened to be invented and marketed by an American. It was rejected by the U.S. Army but embraced by the Soviets for it’s simplicity and ruggedness. The tracks could even be removed and the tank driven on the road like an 16 wheeled truck.
