Who was the Immortal Beloved?
The Immortal Beloved is a woman whom Beethoven wrote a passionate letter to in 1812. The name of the woman is not given in the letter, but Beethoven calls her his “Immortal Beloved.” Although many authors think they know the solution, there is not enough evidence at the moment to settle the question once and for all. The three leading candidates at the moment are Antonie Brentano, Josephine Brunswick, and Bettina Brentano.
