Werner Michael Blumenthal was the Secretary of the Treasury of the United States when President Jimmy Carter was President. He occupied this office from the 23rd of January 1977 to the 4th of August 1979. Werner Blumenthal was born on the 3rd of January 1926 in Oranienburg; this is very close to Berlin in Germany. His family fled Germany after the Second World War started. His family made it to the United States after having first gone to Shanghai. He studied in the United States and got a B.S. in Business Administration from the Hass School of Business after graduating from Berkley’s University of California. He also received a Ph.D from the prestigious Princeton University. He is currently the Director of the Berlin based Jewish Museum. In 1950 he was also baptised as a member of the Presbyterian community.
