Who was the dictator before Suharta, who just died in Jakarta, Indonesia?
Indonesia’s 1st president was Sukarno. He was the one before Suharto, who just died. Sukarno fell out the presidency in 1966, and died in 1970. Unfortunately wiki doesn’t give us the correct year for the end of his presidency. One of Sukarno’s daughter, Megawati Sukarnoputri, was elected by the Indonesian Senate to be the vice president in 1999. Later, on 2001, Megawati became the Indonesia’s 5th president until 2004, lost in the election for presidency.
His name was Soekarno. He was the first president of our Republic. He, alongside Mr. Mohammad Hatta (first Vice President) declared Indonesia’s Independence. Soeharto, a Major General in the 1960’s, designed a disguised coup d’etat to overthrow Soekarno while creating rumors of the first president’s connection with the Indonesian Communist Party (this they don’t tell you in buku pelajaran sejarah -history textbooks). Noting that Soekarno couldn’t establish stability when several high generals were brutally murdered by the ‘so-called’ Communist Party.
