The very popular Sir Arthur Doyle of Sherlock Holmes fame. He was a habitual patron at the National Sporting club of London matches. The promoter Tex Rickard offered him to referee the heavy weight championship between Jack Johnson and Jim Jefferies. Sir Doyle declined the invitation.
