Who was stronger at there best nfl player Jim Brown or rugby player Jonah Lomu?
Not a fair comparison at all. NFL players — even greats like Jim Brown — were/are only on the field for about 40% of the game at the most. And they get a breather after every play, while the clock keeps running. The ball is actually live for only 11 or 12 minutes of a 60 minute game. This allows them to train for very short, intense bursts of activity without having to worry about stamina. Lomu, on the other hand, was on the pitch on both sides of the ball for the full 80 minutes of a rugby match with (more or less) continuous play. He could not afford to be dragging around the ridiculous amounts of upper body mass which allows gridiron players to bench press ridiculous amounts of weight. (There are reasons why rugby players max out at about 280 lbs). And he needed to be a hell of a lot fitter (in the cardio sense) than any NFL player. Throw in the fact that rugby internationals are subjected to a much stricter regime of steroid testing than anything contemplated by the NFL, and all
