Who was Richard Montgomery and Why is our county named after him?
In anticipation of Montgomery County’s 225th Anniversary of breaking from Tryon County and being named Montgomery County, Tricia Shaw will answer the question why was Richard Montgomery so important that there are nearly as many counties named after him as there are Washington. She will trace his journey from Rhinebeck, NY to Quebec City in 1775 and discuss his untimely death during the Patriot’s Northern Campaign to gain Canada as a 14th colony.
