Pat Haines (Class of 97) posted some huge numbers for Vanden football. As a junior, Haines rushed for 1,904 yards and 30 touchdowns to lead the undefeated Vikings to the section championship and Number 1 ranking in the Cal-Hi Sports Division IV poll. As a senior he was even better, rushing for 2,291 yards and scoring 36 touchdowns. Along the way, he had 11 100-yard games, six 200-yard games and two 300-yard games. He did it despite sitting out many fourth quarters as the Vikings routed their opponents. Pat finished seventh in the state in rushing and was honored by Cal-Hi Sports as the small schools player of the year. Haines continued to play football at the Naval Academy. He had a reunion on the field with former Vanden teammate Chris Jessop (Class of 96) when Air Force and Navy football teams played each other.
