Who was nikes founder?
The founder was in fact a female called Gloria Nike, who was a designer and keen sportswoman in the 1960s. Her inspiration came from the Greek goddess of victory, with whom she shared her last name, Nike. It was also from this mythological figure that the logo we now associate with Nike was generated. Despite her founding the company, all the credit went to two associates, Bill Bowerman and Philip Knight who took over Nike and started Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964. They changed the company’s name in 1978 to Nike, Inc. but Gloria Nike was never credited for the company’s creation.
