The New York Racing Association has named Dan Silver director of communications and media relations. Silver replaces John Lee, who resigned on April 26. Silver has served as communications manager in NYRA’s marketing department since joining the company in January 2008. In his new position, Silver will serve as NYRA spokesperson and oversee all publicity and community affairs initiatives. “Dan Silver played an essential role on the team that energized NYRA’s marketing and online communications strategies over the past two years,” said Charles Hayward, NYRA’s president and chief executive officer. “His knowledge of the industry and enthusiasm for racing make him a clear and compelling choice for communicating NYRA as the premier producer of Thoroughbred racing in North America.” Silver earned a master’s degree in 2007 from the University of Arizona’s Race Track Industry Program. His previous experience in Thoroughbred racing includes positions at The Jockey Club, Reynolds Bell Thoroughb
