Who was Medgar Evers, and what was his contribution to the civil rights movement?
Answer Amanda, Medgar Evers was a worker for the NAACP during the early 1960s, during which time he participated in civil rights activities in Mississippi. While these activities were important, Evers’ name became prominent in when he was killed in 1963. After this, he became a martyr of the civil rights movement, and his example and name were praised throughout the movement. Articles were written about him, and he was honored in many ways (I believe there was even a college named after him). Evers’ killer was not convicted until the 1990s, when a prosecutor decided to retry the case (a complicated thing to do). The killer was convicted. This case was the subject of the movie “Ghosts of Mississippi.” Thanks for your question.
