Who was Jim Bellows?
Jim Bellows was a legendary editor who’s career was based on resuscitating underdog big-city newspapers from Los Angeles to New York. He passes away in the Spring of 2009 due to Alzheimer’s disease.
Beginning in the 1960s, Bellows transformed the Herald Tribune, the Washington Star and the Los Angeles Herald Examiner into sophisticated and spunky writing showcases. They often slammed their competition. Bellows delighted in his mission of improving newspapers that were in deep financial trouble or simply not very good.
