When Jesus grew up, he was a great influential leader of the Hebrews because he taught them, among many other things, that you didn’t have to pay money to participate in worship. This took money away from the Roman empire, so they felt threatened by his teachings and had him crucified for insubordination and rabble rousing. He had also convinced many people not to obey the Roman Emperor. Since Jesus was a very beloved man who never harmed anyone, and was a very persuasive teacher during his life, he had many followers. After his death, these followers formed one of the largest religions in the world today, namely the Christian faith.
