Who was in the Garden of Eden?
The first man, formed from the dust of the Garden of Eden and given life by God. He was charged by God to name all the animals of creation and was allowed to try out any fruit in the Garden except the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. However, he eventually did eat the forbidden fruit. When confronted about this transgression by God, he blamed his wife, Eve. Adam’s punishment for these sins was to toil and labor in fields until he returned to the dust from which he was made. Despite being cast out of Eden and being denied the Tree of Life, he lived for quite some time and ultimately died at the age of 930 years. Adam has also been referred to as the first Prophet of God. The name “Adam” is the masculine form of the Hebrew word for “ground,” adamah. Adam may also be a broad term encompassing all of humankind.
