Who was Herbert W. Armstrong?
A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Herbert W. Armstrong was working in advertising when, in 1926, he began a diligent study of the Bible. This study led to his conversion and subsequent ordination as a minister of the Oregon Conference of the Church of God (Seventh Day). After establishing new congregations in the Pacific Northwest, he founded a radio ministry in 1934. As a result of the work of the radio ministry, congregations were established throughout North America and, beginning in 1953, the rest of the world. Mr. Armstrong also established the World Tomorrow television program, the Plain Truth magazine, Ambassador University and Ambassador Foundation. He served as pastor general of the Worldwide Church of God until his death in 1986.
