Who was Alonzo Herndon?
Alonzo Franklin Herndon was born on June 26, 1858 and died on July 21, 1927. He was an American businessman and the founder and president of the Atlanta Life Insurance Company. Herndon was born into slavery and he became Atlanta’s first black millionaire. His home called Herndon Home, is a U.S. National Historic Landmark now. Also, his son, Norris Herndon, expanded the company into a multi-million dollar empire.
