Who was Alfred Stieglitz?
Seemingly in answer to this question Stieglitz once stated: I was born in Hoboken, I am an American. Photography is my passion. The search for truth my obsession.[3] While these simple and somewhat prophetic words probably best describe Stieglitzs sensibilities, they hardly seem to do justice to his amazing accomplishments in the world of art. As a photographer Stieglitz transformed the conception of photography as a medium and as a gallery owner he changed the very nature of modern American art. Like many great artists, however, Stieglitz entered his career through a somewhat circuitous path. Alfred Stieglitz was born on January 1, 1864, in Hoboken, New Jersey.
