Who understands the law of conservation of momentum?
You are on the right track. Think about it. Both you and the vehicle have momentum. The bus, being more massive, has more momentum than a car at the same velocity. Mo = Mass * velocity Thus, in a collision with a less massive vehicle the bus will experience less loss of momentum which means it will slow down less. Thus, the necessary change in velocity for you is also less, thus you experience a lessor IMPULSE. This same argument carries over to equal and greater mass of the other vehicle. In all cases, the more massive the vehicle you are in the less IMPULSE you experience in a collision.
