Who tops the rankings in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll for college football?
The first USA Today Coaches Poll is out. The USA Today Coaches Poll marks the first college football rankings heading into the 2009 college football season. Officially the first USA Today Coaches Poll is only a preseason college football poll, but it gives an early indication as to where voters may be placing their votes as the season gets closer to starting. Starting out as the top ranked team in the 2009 USA Today Coaches Poll is the University of Florida. It’s not really too much of a surprise that they are returning to the top spot of the rankings, as Florida returns a pretty good team that is definitely in the race to become the college football National Champions this year.
The Florida Gators grabbed the top stop in the USA Today coaches poll released today. The Texas Longhorns, Oklhoma Sooners, USC Trojans , and Alabama Crimson Tide rounded out the top 5. Coming in at number 6 was the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Buckeyes will be led by sophomore quarterback Terrelle Pryor. The heralded prep player is a dynamic force on offense and will likely build on his solid freshman season with a year under his belt. Running back Dan Herron will carry the load for the Buckeyes in the backfield while DB’s Kurt Coleman and Anderson Russell will be asked to step up the defensive side of the ball. The Buckeyes will be aiming for their third BCS Championship appearance in four seasons. They kick off their season against Navy on September 5th and will be playing Toledo in Cleveland in mid-September. The Big Ten has three teams ranked in the Top 25 with Penn State being ranked #8 and Iowa being projected as the 21st best team in the nation by college football head coaches. One
