Who the Lactose-Free Diet is recommended for?
A Lactose-Free diet may be recommended for people who have reduced lactase activity which may be a result of an intestinal condition such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. Also, a lactose-free or lactose-reduced diet may be appropriate for people who have had a part of their stomach or large intestine removed. Some people may be born with partial or full lactose intolerance and may need to be on a lactose-free or lactose-reduced diet as well. How the Lactose-Free Diet works for weight loss? If a person is on a lactose-free diet, they should not consume any lactose products including milk and cheese. Because many lactose products are good sources of calcium, riboflavin, and vitamin D, a supplement may be recommended if a person on the lactose-free diet cannot get these vitamins and minerals from other dietary sources. People on the lactose-free diet may experience less gas and bloating which can be caused by many dairy products that contain lactose.
