Who teaches students in inclusive settings? Who has the responsibility of implementing the IEP?
While the special education and related services needed for an individual student with disabilities are required to be stated in the IEP, regulations do not require the person providing the service to be named. The education of a student with an identified disability is not the sole responsibility of the special educator or general educator. Implementation of the IEP typically becomes the responsibility of several professionals, or a team of general and special educators, service providers, and support personnel. This team of educational personnel may plan together, teach together, and assess student progress together.
