Who teaches journalism at Australias universities?
A 1995-96 survey of 22 self-styled ‘journalism courses’ at tertiary institutions in Australia found that the average workload was 12 hours of face-to-face teaching per week. This compares with recent figures that suggest the average in the United States is 7.5 hours. Also, the 5 per cent of Australian ‘journalism educators’ that had never worked in the media, compares with only 1.7 per cent in America.
