Who teaches ESL?
Generally the common denominator is a love of and interest in other languages and cultures, a desire to travel, or a wish to give back to the international community that makes up Toronto by aiding new immigrants in their language and acculturation needs. For many people teaching ESL is one career of many in their lives. For some it is their first career, for others it is sandwiched in the middle between two other careers, and for others it is what they turn to for their third career. Often people in the arts use it as a parallel field to their art. This works very well for the artists who need a balance between the often solitary nature of their art and their need to keep touch with other human beings. And then for some it is their permanent love and they stay with it forever. 1.11.
