Who started up stream fly fishing?
River fish face upstream oxygenating in the current as it goes past them. They huddle up around the back of rocks, downed trees and sand bars where an eddy forms allowing the water to actually push them forward making thier stay in current less tiresome. Being a fisherman fishing downstream puts the angler in the view of the fish being sought. Fish can see out the surface and as a result the fish seeing movement in their horizon get spooked and shy. The guy who turned around and caught 50% more fish wasn’t a genius, nor can anyone take credit for this discovery, he was just smart enough to realize he needed more fish to feed his family and fishing upstream he could get enough in half the time because coming at them from behind them didn’t spook them and run them off.
