The French. Before it was Vietnam it was French Indochina. The Vietnamese didn’t like being a French colony, so they rebelled. Ho Chi Mihn decided to appeal to the communists to support him in his revolution and this got the US involved. The US had a policy of containing communism, so it tried to back non-communist Vietnamese against the commies. This level of involvement gradually escalated.
The president of the Republic of South Vietnam, Ngo Dinh Diem who was murdered to give the way for the GI?s flood to South Vietnam. President Diem was against that idea and was ordered to be purged. ?Vietnam and Iraq are very much alike?. Yes, it was idealism warfare! It was very much alike because the Communist Regime of North Vietnam under the leadership of a monster who wanted to spread the Communism against the will of the South Vietnamese people who wished to be in the freedom world with a good leader: President Diem. The South Vietnam just needed the support from the USA to remain a freedom country. They did not need the US Army in their land. But the American ideal was a different one! It was a French Colony. The Communist rebels were kicking out the French colonialists. The French left. The North was Communist, the south a Democracy. It ended up being a civil war between the North and South. We sent advisers to help out the south. Russia sent advisers to help out the North. We sent guns and bombs, Russia sent guns and bombs. We sent over troops. We killed tons of people and blew all kinds of sh*t up. We left, the North won. It was started by the Commie Rebels, or the occupying French, however you want to call it.
