Lenin himself, when he started to administer the newly found Soviet Union himself during the time of the war he was incidentely building a party leadership base, which was later hijacked and manipulated by Stalin to create a one party dictatorship. He was well respected and revered by his party and his untimely death shortly after victory in the civil war and his New Economic Policy meant that the revolutionary leader and founder of the Soviet Union died at the top of his game. Because he left no direct successor, all the party members tried desperately to muscle themselves into power by using the dead man’s legacy, which further created the cult of Lenin. By the mid 20’s no serious member of the Communist party would have dared criticise Lenin for fear of being ostracised (and probably liquidated under Stalin if it had been the 30’s).
