Who sponsors IRL teams, and why aren there more major companies sponsoring IRL racing?
One might notice many specialized, regional, or less-well-known companies sponsoring IRL teams. Detractors will say that this represents an inability to attract major sponsors. However, proponents contend that this is a matter of the IRL’s lower-cost structure making for a better advertising value for smaller companies. (And if costs can be kept low enough, then it isn’t necessary to have a big-name sponsor. After all, there are only so many Fortune 100 companies to go around.) The IRL has very favorable demographics in terms of the average income and education level of its audience compared to many other spectator sports. And anyway, a primary purpose of advertising is to expose the audience to companies and products that they didn’t know of or may not have thought of. And it really isn’t true anyway that name companies are not involved in the IRL. In fact, many can be found on cars, but as associate sponsors rather than primary, which means that they aren’t as conspicuous. Big names
