This Self Assessment Form is designed so that all research involving human participants or human data or which involves potential harm to society or the environment, will be subject to formal ethical review and approval before commencement. If research falls within the remit of the NRES system or falls within the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, a Self Assessment Form should be completed but no further ethical review will be required via the University system. The Self Assessment Form should be used by members of University staff and PGR students carrying out research. Undergraduates and taught postgraduate students should not use the form, but should seek advice from their respective School or Department. PGR students registered before 1st September 2008 should not complete a Self Assessment Form, but should refer to their Department/School/College for further advice.
