Who should NOT get the 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccine?
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices at CDC identifies the following as contraindications to 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccination. The following groups of people should NOT receive the vaccine: • Those who are <6 months of age • Those who have a severe egg allergy reaction such as urticaria, angioedema or anaphylaxis. • Those who have had an allergic reaction to previous flu vaccination • Those with current moderate-severe illness (temporary contraindication) • Those with a history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Providers should determine whether the benefit of protection from the vaccine outweighs the risk of an adverse reaction.
