Who Should Enroll in the CSUMB Multiple Subject Teacher Credential Program?

0

The Multiple Subject Credential Program at CSUMB is primarily designed for individuals who are interested in teaching in linguistically and culturally diverse self-contained classrooms (K-8). Those who satisfy all program requirements successfully will be recommended to the state for either the ELA (English Language Authorization) or BCLAD (Bilingual Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development) Emphasis credential. Both credentials meet the California state requirement that all newly-credentialed teachers be qualified to teach students from non-English backgrounds who are limited in English proficiency. The ELA option authorizes the holder to teach in settings where instruction is provided primarily in English, while the BCLAD option authorizes the holder to teach in bilingual settings in the language of emphasis (e.g., Spanish) and in English. At this time CSUMB offers the BCLAD emphasis only for Spanish. For a person specifically interested in teaching middle school (grades 7-8)
