Children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old have been laying this notion to rest by embracing the outdoors as part of an innovative programme of events at Kenfig National Nature Reserve. Kenfig Education Warden Graham Holmes and Forestry Commission Wales Education Officer Karen Clarke have been engaging local children in learning and exploring this fascinating natural environment throughout the summer holidays. Signing up for the Kenfig Klub has opened the door to exciting weekly adventures for children where they learn to negotiate with nature, appropriate risk taking and each other. Through a series of fun team building games and activities involving nest building, mud painting and outdoor cooking, the children have developed a real relationship with Kenfig National Nature Reserve and the other members of the group. Never mind the rain; it’s been a great summer for making friends at Kenfig! Graham is delighted with how well the Klub has been appreciated by all concerned. He says:
