It was first proposed in 1905 but someone who thought that Londoners were missing out on most of the day. But he wasn’t successful in getting it started in his country. Germany was the first country to use it in 1916, and UK and France joined in, even Russia. But the USA didn’t start it until 1918. It was originally done to shift the time so there is more outdoor day use. Supposedly it reduces energy costs but it has never found to work out that way in reality because people will turn on their lights and use power when they need it at either ends of he day. It’s a myth that it saves energy. The only ones it benefits are sporting goods businesses and sports places.
