Who remembers when people used to “sandstone” the front doorstep?

Oh I do. They were just as houseproud about the outsides of their houses as the insides. One old friend tells me that she used to get the baby dressed and put out in his pram, then the front step was sandstoned and the windows etc cleaned all before 9 oclock. Very different life to today!
