Who remembers the Armenian music?
These guys seem to have a decent amount of Armenian Folk Music, ranging from pretty slow, to more upbeat funky stuff.
Oh I highly recommend Richard Hagopian’s album Kef Time. That’s the one my family has always danced around to and then at weddings and whatnot, I always recognize the band playing the same songs for dancing in circles. For instance, Soode, Soode and Kale, Kale. John Bilezikjian does traditional music too–instrumentals whereas Hagopian sings. Oh and this is old school traditional Armenian–what I mean is those from present day Armenia often say something like, “This is Turkish music, not Armenian” when they hear it. It’s what our great-grandparents brought with them, so yeah traditional I guess is the right word.
Jivan (sometimes spelled Divan) Gasparyan is the official master of the duduk, which is the Armenian equivalent to the oboe. His first album, “I will not be sad in this world,” is wonderful.
