Who reads and judges my portfolio? How many points are available in each section?
The portfolio is read by five readers. Faculty from the English and Rhetoric and Writing Departments read the Overview section, which includes 8 points for the Language Arts section, 6 points for the Specialization section, 4 points on writing quality, and 2 points on creativity. If the student chooses not to include creative dividers, these two points are based on the resume. The Subject Area sections include Understanding Children, Arts and Humanities, History/Social Science, Science, and Math sections. Three of these five sections are read. Each includes a maximum of 8 points for a total of 24 points. If a portfolio is near one of the cut-offs (54 for Commendable, 35 for Satisfactory, or 25 for Graduating Non-teaching), additional reflections may be read. The subject area sections are read by faculty with expertise in the specific area, many of whom teach LS courses.
