AUA WS 2009 – Single-port transvesical enucleation of the prostate: Clinical experience Tuesday, 03 November 2009 LAS VEGAS, NV, USA (UroToday.com) – This was the first of two presentations examining aspects of surgical treatment of BPH. Dr. Mihir Desai from Los Angeles, CA presented his group’s experience with single-port transvesical enucleation of the prostate (STEP). STEP is a single port placed in the suprapubic skin crease that contains several individual ports within the one device. A pneumovesicum is established and the prostate adenoma enucleated transvesically using standard laparoscopic instruments. The adenoma is brought out through the port site. In this series, 34 patients who did not meet their criteria for TURP or minimally invasive transurethral procedures underwent STEP.
