Born April 21, 1939 in New York City, of French and Spanish heritage, American actor Reni Santoni started his career off as a comedy writer and performed with the Second City comedy troupe in the early 1960s. He became a film, television and voice actor. His first notable role was an uncredited appearance in the 1964 film The Pawnbroker, starring Rod Steiger where he played a junkie attempting to sell a radio to the title character. He had performed episodic TV when, out of the blue, director Carl Reiner cast him in his semi-autobiography film Enter Laughing in 1967. In the make-or-break role of aspiring actor David Kolowitz, Santoni could have hit the jackpot as a major movie star but unfortunately received only mild reviews in the still-popular film and never became a name.
