Who permits and inspects the facility?
The landfill has more than 20 operating permits from various agencies. The key agencies include the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning, California Integrated Waste Management Board, Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board, Los Angeles County Department of Health Services and the South Coast Air Quality Management District. State and local inspectors regularly inspect the site to assure Chiquita Canyon’s compliance with its permits.
