Who pays for peacemaking?
The church is responsible for all costs associated with the peacemaking process (some regions provide funds for peacemaking to their member ministries). Expenses include transportation, lodging, meals, and fees (usually, $1,500 per onsite visit) for the peace worker. Depending upon the size of the ministry, the nature of the conflict, and the travel expenses, the total costs can range from $5,500 to $10,000 over the course of the process (three to five on-site visits). Since financial concerns are likely linked to conflicts in a church, it is important that the leadership consider the costs and consequences of delaying assistance. Experience has demonstrated that when a community makes an authentic commitment to the peacemaking process, the benefits exceed all costs.
