Who participates in fencing?
Fencers at the Marconi Fencing Academy (MFA website Link) range in age from primary school aged children to adults in their senior years. Fencers train individually and in groups. They practice their skills by fencing against each other in bouts and are monitored by coaches, club committee members and fellow fencers. As fencers improve, they are encouraged to bout against fencers of all ages and experience levels and to experience other weapons. Fencers may train for recreational purposes. The majority of fencers will, when they have enough experience and confidence, participate in tournaments against other fencing clubs at state and national level. At the tournaments, fencers are grouped to compete according to experience, age, gender and the type of weapon in which they are skilled. Our state fencing association is New South Wales Fencing Association (NSWFA) and the national fencing association is the Australian Fencing Federation (AFF).
