Intellectual property resulting from research supported by a grant or contract with the federal government, or an agency thereof, shall be subject to ownership by the Board of Regents of the UW System. Intellectual property resulting from research supported by a grant or contract with a non-profit or for-profit non-governmental entity, or by a private gift or grant is subject to the rules contained within the appropriate contract.
