Who owns rights to the Scout today?
Here’s what I know about this popular question: IH had several divisions over its history. In the cash crunch of the early 1980’s, IH figured it couldn’t keep spreading itself so very thin. They decided to sell off some of their divisions and concentrate on their core business — big trucks sold to businesses as capital investments (vs. consumer sales). The Agricultural Equipment division went to Case as is commonly known. The Construction Equipment division (tracked vehicles, dozers, cranes, etc.) went to Dresser Industries. There was even a division whose focus was gas-turbine engines, and a refrigeration division. I can’t recall the disposition of these business units, though I’m sure it’s discussed in the “Corporate Tragedy” book.
