Who owns and manages the Ice Age Trail?
No one entity owns all the land through which the Ice Age Trail passes. The Trail passes through a patchwork of lands owned by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Ice Age Trail Alliance, county parks, local municipalities and hundreds of generous private landowners. The Ice Age Trail Alliance, the National Park Service and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources cooperatively manage the Ice Age Trail. Other partners manage certain segments; the U.S. Forest Service, county and municipal park and forestry departments and other civic entities and private landowners. The Ice Age Trail Alliance delivers much of its management responsibility through local volunteer chapters.
