Who oversees the fee referendum process?
UC Berkeley has a campus-wide Student Fee Referendum Committee (SFRC), including staff and students, providing guidelines for running fee referenda on the Berkeley campus. The Office of Student Life runs the actual election. Their work includes setting up the online voting system, advertising the date and online location of the vote, and processing results. The Chancellor must approve any new mandatory student fee endorsed by a majority vote of students. The student vote is considered advisory. All new mandatory fees approved by the Chancellor must then be advanced to the UC Office of the President or the UC Regents for final approval.
