Who out there knows anything about old sewing machines?

The Singer 221 aka “Featherweight” are very popular machines with quilters because they are lightweight and easy to take to class. They only straight stitch, but they do it well. They are not rare, because there were a over a millon made from 1934 -1964. However, they are in demand and sell well. Value depends on condition and completeness. Most in good, working conditon sell between $200-$400 on ebay, a few special editions go higher. I would recommend you look on ebay to see ones in similar condition and with typical accessories. You could try to sell yours locally through craigslist or put up notices in local quilt shops. You can get a replacement manuual at www.221parts.com. For more information about the featherweight, check out Graham Forsdyke’s site at www.singer-featherweight.com, including an online version of the manual and descriptions of attachments. You can also check the serial number on the bottom of the machine and see what year it was made.
