Who organizes recreational soccer leagues?
Whereas in Europe major efforts are being made by Europe’s governing body and countries soccer federations to insure the grassroots of soccer grows and thrives, the grassroots programs in the US are left, often, to some of the least passionate or soccer educated people – parent volunteers. The area most important for our soccer future is next to ignored by the USSF. While people like to throw around the tremendous numbers of people playing soccer in the United States they never note that most play soccer for only ¼ of a year. Most play enough to be counted as a player but they are sentenced to a lifetime of mediocrity because three to four months is not enough time to develop a youngsters ability to control the ball with their feet. By ages 12-14 years many – statistically- drop out. If USSF agrees that soccer is a sport, which should be enjoyed more year round, at the very least why don’t they ask USYSA, “Why offer programs to the masses for only three – four months a year?” or ” Plea
