Who or what funds Al-Qaeda?
Well, let’s step back in history. Dick Cheney, the US Government, the CIA (including Bush Sr) and Ronald Reagan pushed money to the Taliban (aka Muhajandeen, or Freedom fighters) back when the Soviets were invading Afganistan. Saudi Arabia also pumped money to them based on family and business agreements. The US (Haliburtan as well as several Texas based oil companies) worked closely with Saudi Arabia over several business deals. Step forward in time and deals were made with Iraq and Iran by the US and US businesses as well as some Central American countries (central america doesn’t play into Al Qaeda other than money exchanging hands and some political deals). Move forward again, and some big cheese Saudis disowned a son that was gathering funds for the Taliban. After the Soviets pulled out of Afganistan, the US stopped dumping money in and the Taliban got pissed at the US. From there it went to personal funds being invested that made good interest.
