The New Mexico Teacher Assessments are the only tests that satisfy the basic skills and general knowledge testing requirement for teacher licensure in New Mexico and will be required for individuals who are seeking an initial New Mexico Teacher licensure on or after July 1, 1999, and who have not already passed the Core Battery of the National Teachers Examination after July 1, 1996. All three (3) tests must be taken. What are the New Mexico Teacher Assessments? The New Mexico Assessment of Teacher Basic Skills will measure reading, written communication, and mathematical skills needed of entry-level New Mexico teachers, and may also be used to fulfill the basic skills testing requirement for entry into New Mexico teacher preparation programs. The New Mexico Assessment of Teacher Competency (Elementary and Secondary Levels) will measure professional and pedagogical knowledge and skills needed of entry – level New Mexico teachers. The New Mexico Knowledge Assessments comprise six tests.
