Who needs to have Radiological Worker Training (RW)?
In the past, we had two different levels of this training — RWI and RWII. We now are using a new Radiological Worker Course that, in its full classroom version, lasts approximately one-half day and includes practical training. (Practical training commensurate with work activities is required by the regulation.) This course is required for all who will work with radioactive materials, including radioactive sources, anywhere (even in Controlled Areas), who will enter those places posted as Radiation Areas, High Radiation Areas, Very High Radiation Areas, Contamination Areas, or Airborne Radioactivity Areas. During the past few years, another course entitled “Specialized Radiological Worker Training” (SRT) was used primarily for experimenters and their support staff. In its videotape version, this training was entitled “Supplemental Training for Experimenters.” This training consisted of the RWI classroom materials, but had no practical training component.
