WHO NEEDS THE CE MARKING?
Reviewing the role and significance of the CE marking Lack of understanding in the meaning of the CE marking by the consumers, and poor policing of its rules undermines the confidence in the New Approach. The option of abolishing it should be an object of public debate. This is one of the conclusions from the European Commissions paper on the role and significance of the CE marking that was discussed at the meeting of SOGS (Senior Officials Group on Standardisation and Conformity Assessment) on 29-30 September 2005. ANEC very much welcomes that in the context of the review of the New Approach, the European Commission asks the question of whether the CE marking needs to be maintained. ANEC appreciates that the Commissions proposal reflects and describes the problems consumers have encountered with respect to the CE marking.
